Banner Elk

Banner Elk is a quintessential mountain town.  Perched at 4000’ elevation it is always cool in summer and is nestled between two of the southeast’s best ski mountains – Beech and Sugar Mountains.  There is magnetic street vibe in downtown Banner Elk with fine dining venues punctuating the sidewalks and corners for plenty of “Apre-ski” revery.  It’s also the home of Lees-McCrae College and it’s large auditorium theatre for summer performing arts events.  Banner Elk is a convenient pushing-off point for white water rafting trips down the legendary Nolichucky River in nearby Unicoi/Erwin, TN.  The Banner Elk Winery is a popular venue in summertime.  Elk River Falls is a beautiful walk in any season.  Surrounded by streams and rivers there are endless opportunities to fish, hike, kayak and canoe.  And like any of our mountain towns, it’s okay to just sit on the covered porch and breath the fresh mountain air!
